Documentary Filmmaker Chooses Warsaw High School
An Oscar-nominated filmmaker has chosen Warsaw Community High School as the setting for a documentary on teenage life in mid-America. School officials have announced that Nanette Burstein will shoot “American Teen” at the Warsaw school. Burstein plans to tell the school board about her plans at its August 15th meeting. If the board approves a legal agreement and allows the documentary to proceed, filming would begin this fall. Crews would not film while classes are in session, except during special events. Burstein says the goal of the documentary is to tell a story about coming of age in mid-America and about the different decisions the students make. She chose Warsaw after auditioning students at eight schools in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The first feature length documentary Burstein produced and directed was "On the Ropes," which was about three young boxers. It received an Oscar nomination.
