Biomet Subpoenaed in Federal Investigation

Warsaw orthopedic company Biomet, Inc. announced today that it has received a federal grand jury subpoena. The Subpoena was issued at the request of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. It requests documents regarding possible violations of federal criminal law, including possible violations of the antitrust laws, relating to the manufacture and sale of orthopedic implant devices. The subpoena requests documents from January 1, 2001 through the present date. According to a news release from Biomet, it is the Company's belief that similar inquiries have been directed to other companies in the orthopedics industry. The release says the company intends to fully cooperate with the Department of Justice inquiry.
