Columbia City Steel Mill Announces Expansion
Steel Dynamics, Inc. announced today it will expand its structural steel and rail mill near Columbia City, creating more than 50 new jobs. The company says it will spend $75 million to add a second casting operation to the plant. By the fourth quarter of 2008, the project will increase the mill’s capacity to transform recycled steel scrap into structural steel. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered the company up to $1.325 million in performance-based tax credits based on the announced job creation plans. The State of Indiana will also provide $350,000 in infrastructure grants to the local community to assist with off-site infrastructure improvements needed for the project. Whitley County offered the company property tax abatements worth approximately $3.1 million.
