Daniels Opposes Spending Surplus on Tax Relief
Governor Mitch Daniels says he opposes a leading Democrat’s suggestion that the state use its entire one-point-two-eight-billion-dollar surplus to reduce property taxes. House Speaker Patrick Bauer’s idea would prevent the state from rebuilding its cash reserves and making back payments to local governments. Daniels says he is open to using part of the surplus on a temporary basis until the state receives other money that’s already earmarked for property tax relief.
