Recalled Food Cans Bursting
The nationwide recall of tainted canned food products has become more urgent, as some of the recalled cans have begun bursting. The cans are contaminated with botulism toxin. As the bacterium grows, it produces gas that can cause a can to burst. Health officials are concerned that some of the recalled products are still on store shelves and in people’s homes. They say the dangerous toxin is extremely potent and that you can become infected by breathing it after a can bursts. Health officials say recalled cans should be wrapped in two plastic bags and thrown in the trash. There’s more information about the recalled food products on the web site of the Food and Drug Administration.
