House Approves Property Tax Caps
The Indiana House of Representatives has approved a resolution that could lead to a constitutional amendment that caps residential property taxes. Governor Mitch Daniels opposes the House version, because it bases the caps on the income of the homeowner instead of the value of the property and because the House version would allow local government to exceed the caps to pay off existing debt. The issue now goes to a conference committee.
