Paramedic, Family Threatened by Gunman
Kosciusko County police reported yesterday that a Winona Lake man threatened to kill an Etna Green family Sunday night, before he apparently shot himself in the head. Police are not saying what the man’s motive might have been to kill Carl Wireman and his family. Police say the Winona Lake man pointed a loaded handgun at Wireman when Wireman opened the front door of his home. During a struggle that resulted, Wireman reportedly threw two handguns out of the reach of his assailant. Wireman is a paramedic who ironically assisted in the effort to save the Winona Lake man’s life. The man was in critical condition at a South Bend hospital at last report.
