Flooding Sets New Records
The flooding across central and southern Indiana already is breaking records set almost 100 years ago. Almost a third of Indiana's 92 counties have been declared disaster areas because of the flooding. At least two people have died in the flooding. Governor Mitch Daniels says it’s too early to begin adding up the dollar amount of damage. "First concern," Daniels said, "protection of life, second, protection of property, third, sheltering and caring for people, fourth, toting up the score and do it as fast as we can." One of the areas of biggest concern this morning is the town of Elnora, about 40 miles southwest of Bloomington. National Guard troops, Marines and sailors spent yesterday sandbagging a levee that officials are afraid might fail and allow the White River to flood the town.
